What are we hearing that moves us?

Our Wayfinder World 2020 journey started by uncovering, collecting and understanding what is happening and how it is happening in different local contexts around the world. We focused on understanding the present. We listened deeply. What tone are different communities taking in the work they are doing around the globe? What activities and messages are we tuning into? What is resonating? What seems out of tune right now? And where are we in harmony?

Between July - September 2020, 30 ‘dine-around’ discussions took place all over the world where 150+ people gathered in small groups for coffee, lunch and dinner - some knew each other, others made new friends. They shared and listened to music that inspired them; they met on their own terms, in their own languages; they discussed which social innovations they were seeing in their different countries and regions - what moved them and what concerned them.

Thank you to everyone who has ‘tuned in’ together to the harmony and dissonance around the world.

Where is the harmony and dissonance?

In the Tuning movement of the Wayfinder, we have conducted dozens of global conversations and listened to over 90+ hours of dialogue we and others hosted.

In this moment of constant flux and transition, we were humbled by the honesty and bravery of all the people who have shared their stories of fear, grief, courage and hope with us. Here we have attempted to present the sketches of the harmony and dissonances we heard around the world.

It would be audacious for us to assume that we can somehow represent the whole picture of the world. Instead, this work attempts to create a “mosaic” of stories, entangled in time and space, which enables us to understand our relationship to history, others and ourselves. By navigating the words and actions of our peers around the world, we’d also like you to invite you to experience the sense of interconnectedness we felt during this Tuning movement.

The first movement flows into the second…

As the final notes of the first movement fade to silence, its harmonies and dissonance guide us into the second movement…

IF YOU STILL WANT TO HOST A DINE-AROUND…

The Tuning movement for the #SIXWayfinder is ending, but the listening for harmony and dissonance does not stop there. The ‘dine-around’ was a conversation tool that we designed for the Tuning movement to discuss how we are, and need to be, renewing our relationships with each other and the earth. Feel free to keep on using the dine-around guide to have a deep conversation with your colleagues and friends, and tell us about it!
